Growing up many of us never really thought about technology in the Health and Physical Education classroom. However, technology is exploding in this realm of education as it so prevalent in both professional and amateur sports world, and in the health sciences. Demonstrations of various sports and exercises are virtually limitless; on the internet one can view proper stretching and yoga poses as they hope to increase their flexibility.  Student athletes find training schedule and workouts to keep them in top physical condition. Students of all ages can research specific diseases for a project or paper that they need to complete in health class.

Speaking of diseases Health and Physical Education [H/PE] teachers can share lesson plans or ideas electronically through a productivity software; email and wikis, keep teachers in digital communication. H/PE Teachers can use these tools to help develop a cross curricular assignments with other content area teachers like English/Language Arts and Science. All of these teachers can then have their students benefit from their students using word processing programs, or other presentation software to display the information that they gathered; then select a few quality presentations an post them on a website for future students to review.

Tools like databases developed by coaches can provide the athlete with the “work out of the day” through an electronic catalogue. Managers and trainers can keep spreadsheets to mark progress or tally participation rates of the students. Products like FitBit, that monitor physical activity, can relay data from a device to a computer for one to analyze. Students can learn to make the adjustments needed to their routine to meet optimum physcial activity or health standards.

Finally, for the constant learner, there are thousands of computer applications that can be downloaded to help instruct someone from Archery to Zumba. Various other software programs can be downloaded to one’s computer or tablet in an instant so that the student does not have to spend time waiting for answers, and generating an independent learner.
